Yes, you read that right.

Looks like the former New York Jet and Heisman Trophy winner will live out his dream of playing baseball after all.

The New York Mets announced that they signed the former NFL quarterback to a deal with their instructional league affiliate in Port Saint Lucie, Florida.

The NY Daily News reports that the contract includes a one hundred thousand dollar signing bonus. He'll also be taking some time off to perform his other job - his announcing gig with Southeastern Conference football.

Tebow reports September 19.

Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson stresses that this isn't a publicity stunt.

While I and organization are mindful of the novel nature of this situation, this decision was strictly driven by baseball. It is not driven by marketing considerations or anything sort.

While some see the former college football star's baseball dream as a joke, Tebow was actually quite the accomplished player in high school.

The NY Daily News says that Tebow batted .448 as a junior at Nease High School in Ponta Vedra, Florida, while earning his share of accolades from a number of local publications.

Of course, none of this means he'll ever necessarily make it to the Majors.
