An Atlanta teen who said a heart transplant would give him a second chance at life, died in a crash while fleeing from police.

Anthony Tremayne Stokes, 17, died this week when the car he was driving hit a bank sign. According to police,   the teen's black Honda Accord fit the description of a vehicle involved in a home invasion a short time earlier. They attempted to pulled the vehicle over, but the teen refuse to stop, as reported by The Huffington Post.

The vehicle was also reported stolen in an apparent carjacking earlier that day.

Stokes promised to turn his life around if he could receive a heart transplant two years ago

In August 2013, local news media quoted Stokes' family as saying that doctors at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston refused to put Stokes on a transplant waiting list because of his troubled past and their belief he wouldn't comply with the strict plan for medication and follow-up treatment.

At the time, Stokes, who was 15, needed a new heart because suffered from  dilated cardiomyopathy. He vowed a new heart would keep him out of trouble.

It seems he went back on his word. He was arrested back in January and charged with possession of tools for the commission of a crime and criminal attempt, as reported by ABC News.
