Police are continuing to investigate and are hoping for help after a teenager was shot in Dutchess County.

Wednesday around 2:30 a.m., Poughkeepsie 911 received many calls reporting shots fired in the area of Thompson and North Hamilton Streets in the City of Poughkeepsie.

Responding officers say they found a number of shell casings on the ground in front of 14 Thompson Street. Witnesses told police they heard 5 to 6 shots and then saw several people get into a gray car and drive off.

Shortly after a local hospital called to report a gunshot victim was in the ER and being treated for a non-life threatening wound to his right arm.

The victim, a 17-year-old visiting the local area from Virginia, told authorities he and some friends were hanging out on Thompson Street when shots were fired and he was hit in the right arm.

The unnamed victim said he didn’t know why he was shot, or who did it. His friends also didn’t have any more details.

Anyone with information is asked to call City of Poughkeepsie Police at 845-451-7577.
