A local teen is accused of stealing checks from mailboxes all over the Hudson Valley and depositing $9,000 into his bank account.

Town of Kent police arrested 19-year-old Isaiah Fredericks of Kent after a month long investigation into checks being stolen out of mailboxes and deposited into a local bank account.

On June 8, detectives received a call from a Lake Carmel resident who said several checks were stolen from his mailbox and cashed at a local bank.

Following a subpoena, Fredericks was identified as a suspect, police say. The information from the subpoena also alleged there were 20 victims from Kent, Putnam Valley, Carmel, Poughkeepsie and LaGrange, with a total theft of$9,000.

Fredericks is accused of driving around the Hudson Valley looking for mailboxes with their flags up, indicating there was outgoing mail, stealing checks that were made out to various businesses and depositing the unsigned checks into his bank account through an ATM.

Fredericks was charged with grand larceny. He is due in Town of Kent Court on July 20.
