It was a scary scene Tuesday in Spring Valley as five pedestrians were hit by an SUV. An out of control Toyota Rav4 smashed through the front gate of the Finklestein Memorial Library, pinning a 15 year old girl between the building and the vehicle, according to the NY Daily News. Four other pedestrians (including the driver, who was said to have suffered chest pains) were injured. A women was also struck to the head and was said to be bleeding heavily. Paramedics, along with local police, volunteers, and the fire department rushed to the scene to attend to the injured. The SUV had to be lifted off the teenager, who was said to have suffered very serious injuries. The other pedestrians were transported to local hospitals where their injured were described as non life threatening.

The SUV caused extensive damage to the front entrance of the library. There were up to 50 people inside, mostly children but they were able to escape without injury.  An investigation is pending on the driver, though alcohol did not play a factor. The driver claims a recall on the Toyota model may have caused the accident.
