A suspicious black box  caused road closures in Sullivan County on Thursday.

According to a press release, a DOT worker called Sullivan County Sheriff's Thursday to report a suspicious black box on State Route 42, near the Route 17 overpass. Sheriff's responded to the scene and found what appeared to be a "boombox" AM/FM cassette radio with coils of wire attached to the rear.

There was a note located next to the box that read, "How are you doing Ishmael?”. Deputies immediately cordoned off the area and called for the State Police Hazardous Device Unit. A bomb sniffing K-9 unit responded to examine the package.

Troopers used a water powered cannon to smash the device thereby disabling any potential explosive. After examining the disabled device, it was determined that it did not contain any explosives.
