Police say an alleged burglar, on the run from the law, met quite a gruesome demise.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office said that 22 year-old Matthew Riggins and an accomplice had run from police after attempting to break into homes in Barefoot Bay, Florida on November 13.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office said that a resident called saying that two males dressed in black were walking behind houses in the area. ABC 10 reports that the two fled on foot in an attempt to avoid capture.

The suspects were able to escape.

Riggins was reported as a missing person later that day when he did not return home. So, where was he?

Deputies said parts of Riggins' body were discovered ten days later in a lake. What the police also found was an eleven foot alligator aggressively approaching the area where the body was located, according to the Sheriff's Office. Police say Riggins had drowned as a result of the alligator attack.

Deputies said that due to trauma observed on the body, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission trapper was called to trap and later euthanize the alligator.

Things really turned crazy when a forensic examination of the alligator found remains consistent with the injuries to Riggins inside the alligator’s stomach.
