Today (April 23) we remember Def Leppard guitarist Steve Clark who would have been 57 years old. Other rocker birthdays today include Ex Rob Zombie guitarist Mike Riggs (46) and former Faster Pussycat guitarist Brent Muscat (50).

Steve Clark was a co-lead guitarist and a principal songwriter for Def Leppard up until his death in 1991. Def Leppard had their most commercially successful years during the Clark-era, but they continue to record are still a very successful touring act. The classic lineup featured Joe Elliot on lead vocals, Rick Savage on bass, Rick Allen on guitar, Phil Collen on guitar, Steve Clark on guitar. The 1981 album High ‘n’ Dry helped define the band’s sound with the single “Bringin’ On the Heartbreak”. Pyromania would follow in 1983 with the lead single “Photograph” and enormous success with the album selling 10 million copies in the U.S.  Steve Clark’s last album with Def Leppard would be Hysteria would become the band’s best selling album hitting No. 1 on the charts with 12 million copies sold in the U.S. and over 25 million worldwide. The album would feature a string of hit singles including number 1 hit “Love Bites”, along with “Hysteria”, “Pour Some Sugar on Me”, “Armageddon It”, “Animal”, “Rocket”, and “Women”.

Steve Clark died from an overdose brought on by a combination of prescription drugs and alcohol. He was only 30 years old. Blast some Def Leppard today in his honor!
