The Barnsider Tavern in Sugar Loaf, NY has closed its doors after 35 years, the Warwick Advertiser reports. The owner Matthew Kannon has decided to move on and start the next chapter of his life.

"The business has changed over the years," Kannon said to the Warwick Advertiser. He cited the ban on smoking, the liability in drunk driving accidents, and the economy as factors. "It (the economy) hasn't really recovered like they thought it would."

Also his wife, and business partner, decided to retire early. Kannon went on to say that he had a good run and was honored to serve the hamlet. He said that he employed 1,500 different people over the past 35 years, and he also plans to stay in Sugar Loaf til the day he dies.

I was sad to hear the news of the Barnsider closing, as it was pretty much the only game in town when it came to dining in the area. Whenever heading out to a rock show at Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center, I would stop into the establishment for great food and drink. Wishing the Kannon family all the best with the next chapter of their lives.
