It's been hazy, hot, and humid in the Hudson Valley. Relief may be in sight, but not before the threat of some strong storms moving through the Hudson Valley this afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued two weather statements for today. The first is a Special Weather Statement for the Hudson Valley, stating that strong to severe storms are expected in our area for this afternoon and evening. These are expected to develop throughout the afternoon and could produce some sever storms with the main threat from wind gusts that could cause downed trees and power lines. Power outages may not be out of the question.

A short time after that special statement was issued, the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for our area until 8 pm tonight. Again, this means that conditions are favorable for severe storms. Should severe storms develop, they will issue warnings and we will update you. If you have outdoor plans for today, please be aware of the weather in your area. These storms could develop quickly. If you hear thunder, head indoors, if you see a flash of lightning, get there quickly.

We will continue to monitor this situation throughout this afternoon and provide updates as we get them.
