The New York State Troopers issued an absurd amount of tickets during the week long Halloween enforcement period.

The New York State Police have announced that they issued a total of 16,690 tickets during the state-wide Halloween enforcement period. The special enforcement period began on October 26 and continued until November 1.

During the campaign,state police utilized sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and ticketed distracted drivers who used handheld electronic devices.

Troopers arrested 266 people for DWI and investigated 1,778 accidents, which resulted in 251 people being injured and three fatalities. Speeding and aggressive drivers were also targeted across the state. Here's the a partial breakdown of the total tickets issued.

  • Speeding - 5,729
  • Distracted Driving - 448
  • Seatbelt Violations - 475
  • Move Over Law - 193

The numbers are up greatly from last year since last year, considering the total number of tickets issued in 2017 was 9,057 compared to this years 16,690.

I guess the main message here is, slow down people!
