Thanks to a class action lawsuit, if you bought StarKist tuna any time between 2009 and 2014 you're owed $25.

The class action lawsuit claims that the StarKist Company, makers of StarKist Tuna, under-filled some 5 oz. containers of their canned tuna. If true, it's a violation of state and federal law. The suit alleges that customers were cheated out of tuna and should be compensated.

Although StarKist denies that it underfilled its products and denies that it did anything wrong, they have decided to settle the lawsuit by reimbursing its customers. Both parties of the suit agreed to a Proposed Settlement to avoid the expense and risks of continuing the lawsuit. The settlement gives customers the choice of $25 in cash or $50 in free StarKist products.

If you're a citizen of the United States and bought at least one can of any of the following StarKist products between February 19, 2009 through October 31, 2014, you can file a claim online for your reimbursement. Because the settlement goes all the way back to 2009, you do not need to provide proof of purchase. The items are:

  • one or more 5 oz. can of Chunk Light Tuna in Water,
  • one or more 5 oz. can of Chunk Light Tuna in Oil,
  • one or more 5 oz. can of Solid White Tuna in Water, or
  • one or more 5 oz. can of Solid White Tuna in Oil

You will have until November 20 to file your claim by using a simple online form.

Did you purchase StarKist Tuna during this time? Will you choose the $25 or $50 in free products?
