In a surprise announcement this morning, Disney has released the official name of the new Star Wars movie.

Fans were sent a special message this morning with the news directly from StarWars.com. In a release, the title was revealed for the first time.

We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.

The upcoming film was written and directed by Rian Johnson and will hit screens on December 15.

The Last Jedi doesn't sound very good for the prospect of Luke Skywalker surviving through Episode IX. Of course, we're assuming that Rey is the last jedi. And if that's the case, Luke is going to have to somehow get out of the picture. But perhaps the title refers to Luke, himself, and his vow to stop teaching the Jedi arts after things went terribly wrong with his pupil, Kylo Ren.

Nerds like me will be contemplating this for months. What do you think?
