Late last year David Gettleman was named the new General Manager of the New York Giants. Gettleman started his football career right here in the Hudson Valley.

Back in 1973 Gettleman created the Spackenkill football program and was head coach until 1978. They also won two league titles under Gettleman.

When it was announced Gettleman would be GM of the Giants he came back to his old stomping grounds at Spack.

Now that the Giants season is underway, it was time to get the Spartans to training camp. According to current Spackenkill head coach Clinton DeSouza, Gettleman extended an invitation to the varsity team to get the VIP treatment at Giants training camp in New Jersey on Monday.

The team got to catch Odell Beckham Jr get some catches in and hung out with rookie superstar Saquon Barkley. Coach DeSouza said  "Mr. Gettleman is a world class individual and we were treated like royalty." He added that Barkley came over "and took every photo, took every selfie and signed every autograph."

The Spackenkill Spartans kick off their season on Saturday, September 1st at home against Liberty high school.
