It’s been over a month since Sons of Anarchy boss Kurt Sutter offered any update on FX spinoff pilot Mayans MC, and perhaps with good reason. Sources claim not only that the entire pilot may be reshot, but that cast may go their separate ways as well.

According to Deadline, Preacher alum Norberto Barba has been brought in to direct and executive produce a second crack at Mayans MC, leaving Sutter to focus on writing and producing. Recasting is already underway for a late summer production, though it remains unclear which actors have left the project.

Prior to reshoots, J.D. Pardo was to play EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California and Mexico border who “struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel as well as his need for respect from the women he loves.” Also cast were Clayton Cardenas as EZ’s brother Angel, John Ortiz as club president Esai “Taino” Osorio, Breaking Bad alum Raymond Cruz as Che “Padre” Romero and Edward James Olmos as EZ’s father. Other cast included Andrea Londo, Sarah Bolger and Jacqueline Obradors.

So read the initial Mayans MC synopsis:

Mayans MC is set in a post Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border, struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel, and his need for respect from the women he loves.

Sutter co-wrote the project with producing partner Elgin James, while it was said the present day setting could allow for occasional crossover with surviving Sons of Anarchy characters. Worth noting; the original series underwent pilot reshoots as well, including the replacement of Daredevil star Scott Glenn with Ron Perlman.

We’ll hear more of the new Mayans MC pilot soon, so stay tuned for the latest.
