The most anticipated week of the summer begins August 10: Shark Week!  Sure, you could just sit home and watch the Discovery Channel all week, but the Hudson Valley has a few reasons to pry yourself off the couch and celebrate Shark Week outside:

See a Giant Shark Fin
"Freedom of Movement" is the name of a sculpture that was donated to the City of Newburgh by artist James Johnson in 2008. The 12 foot aluminum shark fin is located in the plaza of 208 Broadway in Newburgh.  It's a great photo op for Shark Week!

Bring a Shark Home
High end aquarium supply shops in our area have everything the serious fish enthusiast needs to build and maintain a real shark tank.  River and Reef Aquarium in Fishkill lists sharks among the types of fish available for sale.

Become a Real Swimming Shark
This competitive swimming club has been a part of USA Swimming for almost 4 decades. The Newburgh Sharks offer training and practice groups for all ages.  Visit them online for more information and to schedule a tryout.

Go Head To Head With a Real Shark
Got a great business idea or an invention that you think will set the world on fire?  Why not try out for the ABC reality series Shark Tank.  Open casting calls occasionally happen in our area, but you can also apply online.  Fill out the form and maybe you'll be begging Marc Cuban for some cash on national TV!

Eat Some Sharks
The Poughkeepsie Ice House has some great grilled shark tacos on their menu.  Sit and relax outside, right on the Hudson River and take revenge on those nasty sharks by wrapping them up in a tortilla and giving them a taste of their own medicine. (call ahead for their specials menu)

Let The Kids Play With Shark Teeth
Dino Dig in Hopewell Junction has lots of activities for kids.  There is a fossil dig where children can uncover actual fossils imported from all over the country including, you guessed it, actual shark teeth.
