While the rumor mill churns out Guns N' Roses reunion stories, guitarist Slash is busy making plans for his next solo album.

He shared a few details during a recent interview with the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, saying he's "90 percent completed" with the songwriting process for the new record and getting ready to line up studio session dates.

"The stuff for the next record is really great," enthused Slash. "One of the cool things about this band is that instead of peaking early and burning out, we’ve started at one place and escalated in terms of our creative inspiration. It keeps getting better from record to record, which is a really nice thing to have happen. So yeah, we just seem to get more in a groove the longer we stay together and the harder we work on the road and so on. It just seems to come out in the new material. Next is finishing pre-production on the next album and going into the studio in the spring."

In the meantime, Slash remains on the road with his band Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, touring behind a prolific few years of activity that include the recent Live at the Roxy DVD as well as 2014's World on Fire — not to mention his burgeoning career as a producer of horror films.

Slash has been working on new material between tour dates, and although it's far too early to expect any specific information about the next LP, he did recently promise fans that he wouldn't stray too far afield from his traditional guitar-based rock 'n' roll approach.

"There’s always that element of new discovery that ends up on the next record," he said earlier this year. "But the one thing they can always expect, it’s going to be really sort of from the heart, hard-rock material, whatever it is that I end up putting out. I’m always true to the school."
