One local city has declared a Halloween curfew, should the rest of the Hudson Valley follow suit?

On Tuesday, City of Kingston Mayor Steven Noble announced that on Monday Oct. 31, 2016, a curfew begins at 8 p.m. for all children under the age of 16-years-old in the City of Kingston.

“In the interest of protecting our children and ensuring their ability to enjoy a safe Halloween, a curfew will be imposed,” Noble stated. “The cooperation of parents and caregivers is imperative. Parents and caregivers should accompany their children at all times.”

The Kingston Police Department shared Noble’s executive order on their Facebook page.

Some are in favor of the curfew.

“All the rest of the towns of Ulster should follow suit,” Lucille Keller Hintz wrote.

While others feel the 8 p.m. curfew is too early for children to fully enjoy Halloween.

“Seriously!? 90% of people won’t give out anything (candy) until after 6 p.m.,” Kari M. Nash proclaimed. “This is supposed to be a fun night walking around with your kids and friends not let's run around the neighborhood so that we don't get in trouble.”

“This isn’t fair to the kids,” Kris Hbic added. “Nobody gets home till 5 p.m. Kids will start about 6 p.m. Two hours isn’t enough time.”
