Sheriff: Former Dutchess Deputy Caught Impersonating a Cop

A man from LaGrangeville who is a former police officer has allegedly been pretending he's still a cop, according to authorities.

Frederick Eberhard, 25, has been charged with second-degree criminal impersonation, which is a misdemeanor. Eberhard is a former part time Marlborough police officer, and part time deputy with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, as reported by the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Eberhard resigned from the Sheriff's Office in July of 2014.

He was caught due to complaints from a local towing companies. He was working as a driver for a local tow company, and was pretending he was still a police officer when he came into contact with other local drivers.

Eberhard was released with an appearance ticket and is due back in court in early March.
