A man who was convicted for sexually abusing a 5-year-old attempted to have sex with a 13-year-old in the Hudson Valley.

Terrick Washington, 45, of Newark, N.J., was sentenced to 21 years in prison for attempted enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity.

“Predators who target children deserve the harshest prison sentences possible,” Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said. “I am grateful that the criminal investigators in my office were able to expose this registered sex offender’s plans to entice a child into sexual activity and arrest him before he could harm another child.”

In December of 1993, Washington was sentenced to 15-years in New Jersey prison for sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl.

In 2015, Washington began texting what he thought was a 13-year-old girl from Orange County. However, he was actually talking with Orange County District Attorney Office Criminal Investigators.

According to court documents, during their text conversation, the undercover agent identified himself as a 13-year-old girl. Washington stated he was 44. During their texts, Washington described in detail a variety of sexual acts he wanted to perform on the 13-year-old and made arrangements to meet her in Orange County.

In November of 2015, Washington was arrested at the Harriman train station after he arranged to meet the teen and have sex with her in Orange County.

“Protecting children from those who prey on them is a priority for this Office and our partners at the FBI,” Acting U.S. Attorney Joon H. Kim said. “As today’s sentencing demonstrates, we will use every tool available to law enforcement to prosecute and punish those who sexually exploit children.”
