U.S. News & World Report and the RTI International, a global nonprofit social science research firm, have released their 2015 Best High School rankings. Both organizations started with 29,070 public high schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia (Some of those schools had to be eliminated mainly because they were too small. So, the actual count is 19,753). SEE FULL LIST HERE

A three-step process determined the 2015 Best High Schools. According to US News, the first two steps ensured that the schools serve all of their students well, using their performance on the math and reading parts of their state proficiency tests as the benchmarks. For those schools that made it past the first two steps, a third step assessed the degree to which schools prepare students for college-level work.
