A school bus carrying young children was rear-ended Monday morning in Dutchess County.

Shortly before 8 a.m., a school bus owned by the Hyde Park Central School District was rear-ended by a car. Young children were on the bus at the time of the accident, officials say.

Both the bus and the car were traveling north on Violet Avenue at the time of the collision. The accident happened approximately 150 feet north of the Fairview Fire District. Firefighters were on scene before being dispatched.

Children are being transferred to another bus at this time. Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is on scene investigating before Brandl's Towing can move the vehicles.

Traffic delays are to be expected.
