Police say a Saugerties man stole money from a friend. While being questioned as a witness, the man allegedly told police he was going to vomit and then tried to hide the stolen cash.

Saugerties police responded to the area of Partition Street to investigate the theft of a large amount of cash taken from a man's wallet.

During the investigation, police interviewed 26-year-old Kenneth E. France, who was a friend and witness for the victim. Officers became suspicious of France when he allegedly told police several different versions of how his friend’s money was stolen.

Police say while still interviewing the Saugerties man, he pretended he was getting sick and going to vomit as a diversion to allow him to hide the stolen cash.

Authorities allege France hid the money in a shoe, kicking the stolen cash under a dumpster. France was charged with grand larceny and tampering with physical evidence, both felonies.

France was processed at police headquarters released to appear in the Village of Saugerties Court on June 27.
