An investigation into heroin trafficking in the Village and Town of Saugerties led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man.

Members of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team (URGENT) arrested 20-year-old Jason T. Cavallaro, of Saugerties. Officials allege, following a traffic stop, Cavallaro was found to be in possession of 42 bags of heroin, 12 clonazepam tablets, and 3 suboxone strips.

Cavallaro was charged with 3rd-degree intent to sell, 3 counts 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of a hypodermic needle, felonies.

Cavallaro was arraigned and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.

The following agencies have members assigned to URGENT: Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Woodstock Police, Town of Lloyd Police, Town of Shandaken Police, Ulster County Probation, Town of Plattekill Police, Village of Ellenville Police, Town of Marlborough Police, Town of New Paltz Police and United States Department of Homeland Security Investigations.
