It's a little early in the year for a Santa sighting.

That's exactly what happened though in Post Falls, Idaho, last week, when Santa was spotted driving on the wrong side of the road.

KREM reports that documents state that officers arrested a Washington state man who is legally named Santa Claus after he was spotted driving the wrong way.

An officer witnessed the 67 year-old Claus driving the wrong way and pulled him over. Police said that when questioned, Claus said that he was not from the area and unfamiliar with the streets. Police said they could smell alcohol coming from the vehicle.

Court records state that Father Christmas admitted to having three or four beers at Moon Dollars Bistro in Post Falls.

Officers at the scene conducted a sobriety check and noted that Clause had difficulty maintaining his balance.

Court records stated the two samples of a breath test read .130 and .119.

Police arrested Santa Claus for DUI but noted he was “cooperative throughout.”

The charge was reduced on Friday to misdemeanor reckless driving when Claus appeared in court.

Santa pleaded guilty and paid a $700 fine.
