Unexpected icing conditions caused a shut down of Route 9W early Thursday morning.

The freezing temperatures have created hazardous road conditions throughout the Hudson Valley, with standing water from yesterday's rain transformed into sheets of ice.

Early Thursday the ice was so bad on Route 9W that it caused a multi vehicle accident. The southbound stretch of Route 9W closed before 6am between Mountain Road and Storm King Highway. According to Hudson Valley traffic reporter, Nancy Reamy, the Northbound side was open, but there were significant delays.

Temperatures are expected to stay below freezing for much of the morning commute, so conditions will not be getting much better. Later in the day it won't get much warmer. A high of 42 degrees is expected.

Tomorrow morning's commute may not be much better. A wintry mix of snow and rain is expected. Be sure to tune in to 101.5 WPDH for the latest traffic updates throughout the morning.
