A group of inmates at New York City's Riker's Island prison tore away plastic glass from a watchpost to save a female officer who was being assualted by another inmate.

Raleek Young, 27, who is serving a five to ten year sentence for rape, entered the watchpost and began choking the female officer with his pants down. He then dragged the officer into a bathroom and blocked her from opening the security door, as reported by The Daily News.

He gained access to the watchpost by saying he had to pick up a mattress from another unit and he need to pass through.

Responding officers were assisted by other inmates to gain access to the watch post, by breaking the plexiglas to enter to the bubble-like post. One inmate was able to slip through a crack, to gain access. A group of inmates took down the assailant, and held him until officers arrived.

A spokesman for the correction department stated “The matter is under investigation”

The majority of the attack was caught on video.

Young was arraigned Monday in Bronx Criminal Court. He is facing many new charges, including: attempted rape, sexual abuse, forcible touching, and assault and harassment.
