Red Hook Central Schools took a big step the other day, and residents approved building a new auditorium at the High School.

Red Hook school district is the only one in the Mid Hudson Valley without an auditorium. It's been talked about for years, and finally, the students and community will get a brand never performance space that, according to Mid Hudson News will cost around $10 million.

Of the $10 million cost, $6.5 million will be bonded with the state kicking in $3.5 million, secured by Assemblyman Kevin Cahill (D, Kingston). “This wonderful new facility promises to provide a venue for musical and theatrical talents, as well as much-needed space for the community to gather,”

This is a project that will be a game changer in Red Hook. There are so many students with amazing talent and having a place to perform and hone their talent is a vital part of the education process. When Beacon High opened their new school a few years back, the new theater created lots of buzz. It is a great space and has been named after the late Pete Seeger.

Congratulations to the Red Hook School district. The new auditorium is expected to be finished by 2020. I hope it is state of the art and provides many years of entertainment and education to Northern Dutchess County.
