Sullivan County’s Department of Solid Waste & Recycling has enrolled stewardship program to collect and recycle spent rechargeable batteries and cell phones.

The batteries and cell phones can be recycled at the County-operated transfer stations, free of charge and at no cost to the taxpayer.

Previously, these items were accepted for free, but the county was charged to recycle them.

District 7 Legislator and Public Works Committee Chairman Joe Perrello said:

We continually monitor our recycling and solid waste programs to find ways to save money, expand offerings, and improve the customer experience, all while keeping well aligned with our environmental and sustainability goals
