A few hundred protesters assembled at the Dutchess County jail in Poughkeepsie on Tuesday in the aftermath of the Michael Brown grand jury decision. Video shows the large crowd chanting "Shut it down."

The protest was promoted by Community Voices Heard and, according to The Poughkeepsie Journal, police did not make any arrests. A release by the City of Poughkeepsie Police stated that protesters did violate local and state rules, but were still allowed to continue because there was no violence or destruction of property:

Members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department acted with care and consideration in addressing the group... There were no arrests, no destruction of property and no injuries to any citizens or police.

In addition to the chanting, names of African Americans killed by police were read aloud under a backdrop of a sign that read  "Hands Up Don't Shoot". Organizers noted that a majority of the protesters were from Vassar college.
