The initial plan for Wildberry Lodge in New Paltz included a massive resort and water park, but the recently revised site plan indicates plans have changed in a big way. Hudson Valley businessman Steve Turk, the man behind Wildberry, has decided to focus on a more environmentally friendly approach.

The nearly 60 acre property is located just off the New York State Thruway in New Paltz. Hudson Valley One reports the new pitch on this multi-phase project, instead of focusing on the water park, was all about butterflies. The New Paltz town board heard all about Turk's plans to build a butterfly conservatory to go along with a 90 room hotel and event space. If approved, the rest of the property will include trails, a 'treehouse and canopy adventure' and outdoor performance space for music and theater productions.

The two phase project could be built out over four to seven years and is expected to be self financed. Turk Hospitality Group also owns and operates the Rocking Horse Ranch and Splashdown Beach properties locally.
