More than six years after it was originally proposed, a new Irish Cultural Center will be built in Kingston. However, concern remains from local residents as to how it will affect the neighborhood. The Daily Freeman reports the city planning board approved the plan unanimously Monday night.

According to their website, the Center will have a theater for musical performances on the ground floor. The main and second floors will house a pub, dining area, recording studio, and classroom. Multiple balconies will overlook the Rondout Creek.

One of the main concerns from local residents is parking. A building of that size should normally have as many as 55 parking spaces on site. The new facility was approved for eight. According to a representative of the Center, a nearby municipal lot will be used, with a shuttle bus provided, for their larger events.

The developer of the project still has steps to take, while the site plan was approved, a building permit must still be obtained.
