NBC Philadelphia is reporting that professional wrestling legend Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka is facing charges that he killed girlfriend, Nancy Argentino, more than 30 years ago.

Snuka, who's real name is James Wiley Smith Reiher, was arrested by police on Tuesday at his Waterford Township, New Jersey home and charged him with third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. The charges came after a grand jury determined that the 72 year-old Snuka caused bruising and other injuries that led to Argentino’s death in a Lehigh County, PA motel room in May 1983.

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said at a Tuesday news conference that Snuka allegedly assaulted Argentino repeatedly and then allowed her to lie on their bed at the George Washington Motor Lodge without obtaining the necessary medical attention.

Prosecutors say that Snuka had given conflicting accounts of what happened the night of her death. The former World Wrestling Entertainment (known back then as the WWF) star had said that she fell and hit her head on the concrete. The case went cold for more than 30 years until DA Martin reopened the case after a newly-revealed autopsy report appeared in the Morning Call.
Argentino suffered a multitude of injuries to the face and scalp, as well as body bruises and abrasions that were consistent with domestic abuse, said Martin.

Argentino's family won a wrongful death lawsuit against Snuka in 1985.
