Over the next eight to ten years, you'll see less Price Chopper supermarkets, and more Market 32 stores. Parent company Golub Corp. announced last November that all 135 Price Chopper locations would undergo a renovations and an identity change, and become the new, more modern super store.

But there's one item the new stores won't sell: Cigarettes. Why?

Golub CEO Jerry Golub told the Albany Business Review

It's about creating a brand and experience. One ideal is health and wellness. We couldn't ignore the obvious conflict that tobacco products have with that vision.

Price Chopper stores will continue to sell cigarettes before all the stores are converted to Market 32 supermarkets.
