While speaking to a civic group in Cleveland on Wednesday, President Obama mulled the idea of mandatory voting in the U.S, according to ABC News

If everybody voted, then it would completely change the political map in this country.

According to the United States Election Project, less than 37 percent of eligible voters voted in the 2014 midterms. A study done by the Pew Research Center study found that those who skipped the polls last year tended to be younger, poorer, less educated and more racially diverse.

At least two dozen countries have some form of compulsory voting. A number of the mandatory voting countries require that eligible voters must provide a valid excuse for skipping the polls, or face potential fines.  Obama went on to say that he wants to change the role that money plays in US elections, and would consider pushing forward to amend the Constitution...though a number of experts any insiders don't see this happening anytime soon.
