Police say Poughkeepsie man in a car stopped on the shoulder of the Taconic was allegedly in possession of a number of drugs.

A State Police investigator traveling northbound on the Taconic State Parkway observed a vehicle on the shoulder of the roadway and stopped to check the welfare of the vehicle’s occupants. The officer requested a marked patrol vehicle to respond to the scene after he observed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

Authorities say an investigation revealed that one of the occupants in the vehicle, 26-year-old Russell P. Sage, of Poughkeepsie was allegedly in possession of a small quantity of heroin, an estimated 47 grams of Oxycodone, and approximately 1 gram of marijuana.

Sage was charged with 3rd-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony, 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor, and a violation for unlawful possession of marijuana.

Sage was arraigned in the Town of Kent Justice Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail by in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. The defendant is due to reappear in the Town of Kent Court at a later date and time.
