A Hudson Valley restaurant that's been in business for almost three decades is rumored to be closing down and its historic building demolished.

The building was built in the 18th century as a home for the toll collector on King's Highway, which eventually became Route 9 in Poughkeepsie. For the past 27 years it's been the home of Coppola's Restaurant. Now, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal, there are plans to close the restaurant and demolish the building.

An application has been filed with the Town of Poughkeepsie to level the historic building to make way for a new Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union branch. One of the owners, Nicola Coppola, filled out the paperwork and submitted it to the town, but when one of the co-owners was asked about the plan he said it was just a rumor.

There are currently two new restaurants being built within a mile of Coppola's on Route 9. Golden Corral is currently under construction just two buildings away and further south the Texas Roadhouse is scheduled to open in just a few weeks.

As for a plan to build a Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union branch on the property it should be noted that their main branch is located just down the street on IBM Road. Recently they have sectioned off parts of the building that are now occupied by other businesses.
