Popular Kingston Store Closing

The uptown Kingston store has been open since 1973.

According to Hudson Valley News Network, Columbia Costumes, Wigs and Beauty Supply will be closing up shop at the end of December.

Store owner Laura Spaey told HVNN, “I finally conceded. I’m moving on, I’m not a businesswoman. I’m a farmer. That’s why we’re closing. I do things out of love and caring and nurturing and that does not make for a profitable business.”

The costume shop was opened by Spaey's parents, Richard and Shirley Kobran, back in 1973 at 304 Wall Street and has been in three locations since. It moved from the original space to 314 Wall Street and then to its current location at 66 North Front Street 12 years ago.

Columbia is a must shop at store during the Halloween season as they feature thousands of deluxe adult and children’s costumes. They also carry hair and skin products, makeup, lingerie, jewelry and all types of wigs.

Spaey told HVNN that she is looking for someone to buy the shop before she closes up for good on December 31, 2016. If the store doesn't sell she plans on liquidating all of the shops inventory and has already cut prices by 30%.
