Colorado - A pregnant woman who answered an ad on craigslist was stabbed, and the fetus was cut from her womb.

The woman was seven months into her pregnancy.

Dynel Lane, 34, placed an ad on craigslist offering baby clothes for sale. She is now facing charges of attempted murder, first degree assault and child abuse knowingly or recklessly resulting in death, as reported by CNN

She could face additional charges, but officials have to evaluate medical information first.

The victim survived, but her unborn baby did not. She underwent surgery and is expected to recover. According to police, the suspect showed up at the same hospital, claiming she had a miscarriage.

Stan Garnett, Boulder County District Attorney said:

The issue of whether or not murder charges are appropriate involving a case involving the death of a fetus or late-term pregnancy is always a difficult issue. Under Colorado law, essentially, there's no way murder charges can be brought if it's not established that the fetus lived as a child outside the body of the mother for some period of time. I don't know the answer yet as to whether that can be established, what our facts are here. One of the issues that we will need to evaluate in connection with that is the medical information.
