State Police arrested a Wappinger woman for driving while impaired by drugs with her two-year-old son in the vehicle.

According to New York State Police, Troopers were dispatched by Dutchess County 911 to a one-car auto collision on Smith Crossing Road. Following an investigation conducted by the arresting officer, the driver of the vehicle, 40-year-old Stephanie V. Santiago, of Wappinger, was found to be impaired by drugs at the time of the crash. Her two-year-old son was a passenger in the vehicle. He was not injured.

A New York State Police Drug Recognition Expert evaluated Santiago for impairment. She was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, a class E Felony and 7th-degre possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Santiago was arraigned before the Town of Wappinger Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. She is scheduled to reappear in Wappinger Court on Thursday.
