A Sullivan County man, who was wanted on a warrant, was allegedly caught while handing a gun to his 15-year-old son.

Sullivan County Sheriff’s Detective Peter Ramos and Monticello Police Officer Manuel Leon-Martinez were having breakfast when they noticed Gary Ivory, Sr., 46, who was wanted on warrant. Ivory was wanted for an assault in connection with a domestic dispute that occurred in August of 2015.

The officers followed Ivory, who was with his 15-year-old son, out into the street and around the corner. The officers arrested Ivory just as he was handing a package to his son, which contained a loaded .40 Caliber handgun, authorities said. He was taken into custody without incident.

In addition the warrant for assault, Ivory was also charged with felony possession of a loaded firearm and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a minor. Ivory was arraigned and sent to Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail, pending a future court appearance.

Sheriff Mike Schiff complimented Detective Ramos and Officer Leon-Martinez for the excellent job they did in apprehending Ivory.
