A muffler dragging on the road led to a teen’s arrest for allegedly driving impaired by drugs in the Hudson Valley.

Around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office stopped a car on Route 22 in Southeast for allegedly driving with its muffler dragging on the payment.

During the traffic stop, the driver, 19-year-old Eric J. Henry from Danbury, CT was determined to be driving under the influence of drugs, police say.

Henry is also accused of being in possession of cocaine and Xanax pills, without a prescription.

Henry was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and operating a motor vehicle while his ability was impaired by drugs, both misdemeanors.

Henry was arraigned in Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,500.00 bail. Bail was posted on the same day, police say.

If found guilty of the felony drug charge, Henry could face up to four years in jail and a fine of up to $5,000.00. The misdemeanors are punishable by up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of $1,000.00 on each count.

An investigator from the Sheriff’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit assisted in securing the drug evidence.
