Saugerties police say that a West Camp man was arrested and charged with driving drunk at more than three times the legal limit when he crashed his vehicle on 9W.

The Times Herald Record reports that police were on a routine patrol Saturday evening, when they wrecked car on Route 9W, just North of Seamon Park. Police said the driver, 35-year-old Shawn Monahan, told officers he was texting an ex-girlfriend while driving and hit a tree. Police say that a roadside breath test showed Monahan was heavily intoxicated.

Monahan has been charged with driving while intoxicated and use of an electronic device while operating a motor vehicle.

He was arraigned and released on an appearance for Saugerties Town Court at a later date. Police say that the court revoked Monahan’s driver’s license.
