Police arrested a Poughkeespie woman following an investigation into nearly $3,000 that was stolen from the business she worked.

Shakilah T. Hill, 22, of Poughkeepsie was employed at Thrifty Check Cashing in the City of Poughkeepsie, police say. A customer, who officials believe she knew, passed two counterfeit checks.

Hill violated store protocol by pretending to verify that the checks were valid and allegeldy cashed them for the customer. The counterfeit checks being cashed caused the store a financial loss of over $2,900.

Hill was charged with 4th-degree grand larceny, a class E felony and 4th-degree criminal facilitation, a class A misdemeanor.

Hill was arraigned in the Town of Hyde Park Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.

This incident remains under investigation as police attempt to identify the male party involved.
