Police learned that a man who was allegedly driving 20 miles per hour over the speed limit was driving with 10 active driving suspensions.

On Tuesday morning, Saugerties police arrested 28-year-old Christopher D. Whitter of Saugerties following a crackdown on speeding in the Village of Saugerties.

At the time of the stop, Whitter was clocked traveling at 51 mph in a 30 mph zone, in a residential area in Saugerties, police say.

Following a Department of Motor Vehicle check of Whitter’s

police learned that Whitter’s license had been suspended by the DMV for having 10 active suspensions on 10 separate dates.

Whitter was taken into custody and processed at Saugerties Police headquarters. He was charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony, and given a violation for speeding.

Whitter was arraigned in the Village of Saugerties Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $3,000 cash bail. He is due back in court on a later date.
