Police say a bandit's plan to get stinking rich by stealing cologne at a local mall went sour after he was caught by security.

The Journal News reports that Kevin Lambert of Brooklyn was arrested after he allegedly fled from an Abercrombie and Fitch store into the mall parking lot. A security guard claims that he saw Lambert steal cologne and other items from the trendy* clothing store.

Of course, anyone who'd ever been in an Abercrombie and Fitch probably still smells like their signature cologne, which is sprayed on practically everything in the store. Lambert, however, must love that odor because police say he lifted $1,124 worth of the stuff and other accessories from the A&F at the Palisades Center.

Lambert has been charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. He will also face more charges of resisting arrest and possession of "burglar tools" when he appears back in court on Wednesday. Until then, he's being held in county jail without bail.

If it's any consolation for Lambert, the jail cell he's in probably smells way better than all of that Abercrombie and Fitch cologne anyway.
