A Monticello man kicked the front door of a home in, assaulted the residents and attempted to drag a woman to his car before fleeing, according to police. 

At 3:00 am Saturday, Monticello police responded to a 911 report of a burglary with two assault victims at a home in the village. A 32 year-old male and a 33 year-old female reported that a man kicked their door in, and physically assaulted both of them.

The man is identified as Jason Carnell, 45, of Monticello. He had previously been in a relationship with the female victim.

During the incident, the female was able to run out of the residence, but Carnell chase her and attempted to drag her to his parked vehicle. The female was able to break free and call 911.

When Monicello police officers arrived, Carnell was observed running from the scene. He was located a short time later, according to a press release.

When Monticello officers, who were assisted by state troopers advised Carnell he was under arrest, he struggled and attempted to pull away from officers at which point a taser was utilized to subdue Carnell.

Both victims were transported by ambulance to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. The female was treated for facial injuries and the male for a fractured nose and laceration to the back of his head,

Carnell was charged with Burglary in the first-degree, two counts of Assault in the third-degree, Criminal Mischief, Resisting Arrest, and Obstrucing Governmental Administration.

Carnell was arraigned and remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail pending further court action.
