A man with ties to the Hudson Valley was arrested for using the United States Post Office in Middletown to ship the dangerous drug fentanyl in the mail. A press release from the Acting United States Attorney Phillip Bartlett has announced the arrest of Chukwuemeka Okparaeke on charges he was obtaining large shipments of the drug from overseas, then redistributing in the New York and New Jersey area.

Okparaeke was using a part of the internet known as the 'dark net' to obtain the fentanyl anonymously from overseas. The 'dark net' allows users to mask their identity and location using computer software. The press release states that Okparaeke took extensive steps to mask his true identity, but reportedly bragged about the drug trafficking via an online alter ego.

According to the 13 page unsealed complaint, in November Post Office workers in Middletown saw Okparaeke mail a large amount of envelopes while wearing rubber gloves and became suspicious.

The arrest was made in Kearny, New Jersey and Okparaeke went before the judge for arraignment today in White Plains.
