State Police from the Livingston are investigating the suspicious death of a newborn baby.

On Friday morning around 3:40 a.m. someone informed New York State Police that he thought he noticed a baby left alone outside the XtraMart Bells Pond in Livingston. State troopers quickly responded to the scene; however their search failed to reveal the presence of any child.

Soon after, New York State Police received additional information which resulted in the discovery of a male newborn baby in a garbage bag in a dumpster. Emergency responders from the Greenport Rescue squad were on the scene and sadly determined that the baby had died due to his injuries.

Coroner Michael Blasi ordered an autopsy to be performed at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Pediatric
Pathologist Jeffrey Hubbard, M.D., performed the autopsy and determined the cause of death was a homicide. More specifically, asphyxiation, which is when someone chokes to death due to a lack of oxygen.

If anyone has any additional information please contact the New York State Police at (518) 851-3111.
