Police in Dutchess County saved a man’s life from an apparent drug overdose.

Wednesday morning, the Village of Wappingers Falls Police Department responded to the area of West Academy Street in the Village for a report of an unconscious male outside.

Responding officers say they found a 42-year-old man unresponsive, not breathing, and with a shallow pulse lying outside on the sidewalk. After a quick investigation, authorities determined that the male was experiencing a heroin overdose.

Officers administered 2mg of Naloxone, but the first dose of Naloxone had no effect on the man. A second dose of Naloxone was administered.

Shortly after the unnamed man started to become responsive and began to breathe on his own. Paramedics arrived on scene and took over care. The man was transported via Mobile Life ambulance to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital for further care.
